How template-assisted
crystallization works.
Hard water flows through TAC media
Water containing dissolved calcium and magnesium passes through a tank of template-assisted crystallization nucleation sites, tiny polymer beads with a specific surface structure.
Minerals crystallize into micro-particles
The TAC sites cause dissolved hard minerals to form stable, microscopic crystals. These crystals remain in the water but can no longer attach to surfaces, scale formation stops completely.
Conditioned water protects your home
The mineral crystals pass harmlessly through your pipes, fixtures, and appliances without depositing scale. No salt. No chemicals. No brine waste. The system runs indefinitely with no refills.

The technology
Food-grade phosphate.
Better than TAC.
Most no-salt systems use TAC (template-assisted crystallization). We stopped using it. Food-grade phosphate is a sequestering agent that binds calcium and magnesium ions so they can't deposit on pipes, fixtures, or heating elements. Higher performance. Zero media degradation.
Traditional TAC
- Crystallization media
- Performance drops after 18 to 24 months
- Media replacement required
- Lower scale resistance at higher hardness
- Sensitive to chlorine
Food-Grade Phosphate
- Ion sequestration
- Consistent performance for the life of the cartridge
- Annual cartridge swap only
- Handles higher hardness without drop-off
- Chlorine-tolerant core
Food-grade phosphate is FDA-approved for drinking water systems. It's used by municipalities worldwide to prevent corrosion and scale in pipe networks. In your home, the same science keeps scale off your fixtures.

Quintex 5

Our flagship no-salt water conditioner. Food-grade phosphate technology outperforms traditional TAC media at preventing scale while leaving the beneficial minerals in your water. Installs clean, runs silent, zero maintenance.

Quintex 5
Our flagship no-salt water conditioner.

Quintex 5 + Carbon
The Quintex 5 paired with a carbon pre-filter.

Water Conditioner Cartridge
Replaceable food-grade phosphate cartridge for use inside the AiO or other Aqua Otter housings.
Quintex 5 specifications
The Quintex 5 comes in four sizes. Which one goes in your home depends on your peak demand, so a family of six with three bathrooms gets a different tank than a couple in a ranch.
| Specification | 1.25 cu ft | 1.5 cu ft | 2.0 cu ft | 2.5 cu ft |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Filter media capacity | 1.25 cu ft | 1.5 cu ft | 2.0 cu ft | 2.5 cu ft |
| Mineral tank size | 10" x 44" | 10" x 54" | 12" x 52" | 13" x 54" |
| Service flow rate, peak | 7.0 gpm | 8.0 gpm | 11.5 gpm | 13.0 gpm |
| Approximate dimensions | 11W x 52H x 17D | 11W x 62H x 17D | 13W x 60H x 17D | 14W x 62H x 17D |

- System weights depend on the media used in the various systems.
Inside the Quintex 5: every part explained
Inside the Quintex 5. Five treatment medias in one tank, layered in a specific order and run by a valve that meters your actual water use. Keep scrolling to walk the path your water takes. Five treatment medias. One tank, one footprint. No salt, no brine tank.
Professional Series control valve. Meters your real water use instead of running on a clock. A patented slow, quiet release to drain, regeneration that waits if water is being used, settings that survive power outages, and a back-lit display with simple diagnostics. Meter driven regeneration. Settings survive power outages. Slow, quiet drain release. Back-lit display.
KDF-55 in-tank cartridge. Reduces chlorine and heavy metals including lead and mercury, helps control bacteria and algae, and extends the lifespan of the carbon media. Reduces lead and mercury. Helps control bacteria and algae. Extends carbon media life.
Coconut shell carbon. Reduces chlorine and chloramines, improves taste, and removes odors. Filters VOCs, pesticides, and industrial byproducts. Chlorine and chloramine reduction. Filters VOCs and pesticides. Improves taste and odor.
Catalytic carbon. Targets chloramines, PFAS, PFOS, and VOCs that standard carbon cannot remove, and reduces disinfection byproducts. Targets PFAS and PFOS. Breaks down chloramines. Reduces disinfection byproducts.
High density garnet. Provides a stable base for flow and filtration efficiency, ensures proper backwashing and media separation, and extends the life of the carbon layers above. Stable base for the media bed. Ensures proper backwash separation. Extends carbon life above.
Vortech distribution plate. Moves water in a vortex motion so every grain of media gets used. Distributes flow evenly across the tank and needs up to 30 percent less water for backwash. Vortex motion uses every grain. Up to 30 percent less backwash water. Even flow distribution.
Food-grade phosphate cartridge. Conditions hard water minerals without salt to help prevent scale buildup in water heaters, faucets, and appliances. Scale control without salt. Protects the water heater. Keeps natural minerals in.
One tank, one path. Water enters at the valve, works down through the media bed, and leaves conditioned. The result is smooth-feeling, chemical-free water at every tap, with no salt, no brine tank, and nothing to babysit. NSF certified components. Sized from your water test. Installed by Aqua Otter.
“Best purchase we have made. No issues in over three years. No salt to buy, no maintenance, and our fixtures look brand new. It just works and you never have to think about it.”
